Even though hurricane Patricia caused less damages than feared, it affected towns in the states of Colima, Jalisco, Michoacán and Nayarit.

The precipitation was expected to intensify over the weekend as moisture from tropical depression Patricia, which struck the Pacific coast of Mexico on Friday as a very powerful hurricane.

Many tourists were earlier ordered by staff at their hotels to make for the city's convention center, which was designated by emergency services as a main shelter.
