Mexicráneos, a celebration of our roots

Locos por el Arte and funeral home J. García López have partnered to bring this thematic exhibition, featuring the work of over 50 artists

"Mexicráneos 2017” is an exhibition aimed to celebrate Mexico's cultural roots, in particular, the iconic Day of the Dead.
Over 50 crystal resin skulls, decorated by several artists, dress up Paseo de la Reforma, Mexico City's main avenue.
The exhibition is a partnership between the artist collective, Locos por el Arte, and the funeral home, J. García López.
The Government of Mexico City said these exhibitions are a way to return public spaces to the people.
A skull was painted In memory of the earthquake victims and as a tribute to those who contributed to the search & rescue operations
The artist collective is working on bringing the exhibition to other countries, in order to promote Mexican traditions beyond the borders.
Several people attended the opening – postponed after the earthquake – and didn't miss a chance to take selfies with the “Mexicráneos.”
Many in the crowd were in Catrina disguises, ahead of the Mega Procession de las Catrinas 2017, which took place later on that day.
Artist Cocolvu submitted this skull inspired by the latest film of Disney Pixar, "Coco."
The opening of the exhibition concluded with a musical performance by the group Calaveras de Azúcar.
