Students from the School of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering (ESIME) at Mexico’s National Polytechnic Institute (IPN) , obtained the first place for the "Best mechanical idea and creativity" and "Mechanical design" categories at the Robocon International Design contest 2018 .
Over 60 competitors from China, Japan, South Korea, Singapore, India, Thailand, the United States, and Mexico attended the robotics fair held at the Tokyo Institute of Technology in Japan .
In a statement, IPN informed that the winning students Sergio Delgadillo Marin and Dulce Maria Garcia de Luis were part of the Robotics workshop of ESIME Zacatenco campus , and are currently studying their bachelor’s degree in Control and Automation Engineering .
The young students designed and built LandRobot and SkyRobot .
Delgadillo Marin worked with young people from China, Japan, Singapore, and Thailand
to build a robot that would perform tasks such as collecting balls from one container and placing them in another.
He explained that his participation consisted in designing and building the mechanisms of one of the two robots that were used during the competition and the manipulation of the LandRobot.
Dulce Garcia joined a team made up of students from Japan, India, China, and Singapore , which created two similar robots ( LandRobot and SkyRobot ). The Mexican student was involved in the electronics programming of both.
The IPN participants had the advice of the founder and head of the ESIME robotics workshop, Juan José Muñoz Cesar , who assured that both polytechnic students prepared for six months in programming, motor control, mechanical conceptual design, electronic, software, and robot hardware.
