The Mexican government will investigate transport companies and Pemex's providers of goods and services for fuel theft.
Information obtained by the Finance Ministry , the Tax Administration Service (SAT) , and Pemex , reveals that transport companies that hold permits to transport fuel through tanker trucks and companies that have been granted million-pesos contracts in the last 20 years could be linked to fuel theft.
Some of these companies, whose names weren't revealed for legal reasons, could be linked to fuel and gasoline trafficking , which is later sold in the United States .
The preliminary investigations show that some of these companies have spread their operations to other levels in the fuel supply system, such as the operation of gas stations , as well as operating fuel trucks.
The government has its eye on companies that own between 100 and 350 tanker trucks, some of which have been used to transport both legal and stolen Pemex fuel.
According to records, 1,734 companies participate in this business, and 29 of them are the owners of hundreds of tanker trucks each, although this doesn't mean they are linked to fuel theft .
Information obtained in December 2018 shows that some of these companies control the oil extracted from the wells , mainly in the state of Tamaulipas , through a network that controls this market, from Reynosa to Veracruz .
For example, the dossiers show that some of this companies have up to 14 contracts and several amending agreements with Pemex Exploration and Production (PEP) , which allowed them to increase the costs of the work they carried out.
From 2009 to 2015, these contracts generated rent revenue of MXN $2,901 million for one of these companies.
Another company obtained a contract worth MXN $384.3 million with PEP . Six of the contracts were directly allocated to them without any tender .
A third company obtained, between 2003 and 2007, 11 contracts with PEP , which generated a revenue of MXN $253.3 million.
The authorities revealed that will keep investigating in areas with high fuel theft rates, such as Querétaro, Hidalgo, Tlaxcala, Puebla, Morelos, Mexico, Mexico City, Veracruz, Tabasco, Guerrero, Oaxaca, and Chiapas.
