While the search of properties for sale in Mexico City dropped 10% following the earthquake on September 19, properties for rent increased by 9.0%, according to Vivanuncios .

This classifieds site states the boroughs which have seen a greater fluctuation in the properties for rent market are Cuauhtémoc , Benito Juárez, Coyoacán, Gustavo A. Madero, Iztapalapa, Tlalpan, and Xochimilco – the boroughs reporting the most damages to property after the earthquake.

They added the Cuauhtémoc borough shows a marked loss of interest in eight of its main quarters, among which stand out Roma Sur, with a drop of 27%, Obrera, with a decrease of 23%, Condesa, with 19%, Santa María la Ribera, with 11%, Centro, with 10%, and Roma Norte, with 4%.

On the other hand, the quarters which saw a boost in property for rent searches where Doctores, with 66% and Tabacalera with 37%.

Karim Goudiaby, CEO of Vivanuncios, said his property listings site has analyzed the supply and demand on housing after the earthquake in Mexico City, and that there is a visible change in the search behaviors of the users.

Mr. Goudiaby says these variations could be due to two probable causes; first, people who had planned on buying a property this year are currently on standby due to the uncertainty of prices in the market; and second, it's probable searches for properties for rent has increased because many of those who have lost their homes are quickly searching for lodgings to inhabit.
