Yesterday, the governor of Tlaxcala, Marco Mena , and the soon-to-be Minister of Culture, Alejandra Frausto Guerrero , announced that, as of next month, Mexico’s Ministry of Culture will operate in a building within the Tlaxcala Institute of Culture (ITC) located on the Juárez avenue in the state capital.
The three-story building occupies an entire city block and dates back to 1946 . It is only six blocks away from the city center and, until two years ago, served as headquarters for Tlaxcala’s Institute of Culture .
The institute director, Juan Antonio González Necoechea , stated that a significant part of the state’s artistic heritage can be found within the facility, as well as the House of Music . “The rest of the space is not being used right now because the institute’s administrative department was moved to Apizaco.”
The director of the ITC added that it would be up to the upcoming minister and her team to remodel the premises if it was her wish to do so. “As she announced herself, the transfer will be gradual. We still don’t know the number of people that are coming or how many offices and spaces they will need. However, we are sure that there is enough space for the Ministry’s operation.”
During a round table discussion about food culture, which took place in the framework of the Culture Transition discussion panels , the governor claimed that the state administration was working in full cooperation with the upcoming government to smooth the arrival of the Culture Ministry.
Before representatives from food organizations and cultural groups, as well as local and federal deputies, Alejandra Frausto said that president-elect Andrés Manuel López Obrador aimed to facilitate a dialogue with other states through his decentralization initiative .
