Santiago Nieto sets his sights on Romero Deschamps
Since May, we've been told that the Financial Intelligence Unit (UIF) was ready to take actions against Carlos Romero Deschamps , the leader of the Pemex union , the proof is that the head of the UIF, Santiago Nieto , showed some slides in regards to the case during a meeting at the National Anti-corruption System . At INAI the offices, the official talked about different types of money laundering and he even showed graphic with financial triangulation s, including the ones made by El Marro, the leader of the Santa Rosa de Lima cartel; public universities; an international human trafficking network, and a slide about a union leader who allegedly laundered money between 2013 and 2019. Nieto revealed some details about the union leader and mentioned a daughter who pays maintenance fees for luxury yachts, a nephew who sold a property worth millions, and family members who constantly travel abroad. Is it time to name them?
The President meets with bankers
Yesterday, President López Obrador met with bankers . One of the issues discussed was the adjustment of the outlook for the Mexican economy , made by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) , that went from 1.6% to 0.9% in 2019 because of weak investments and the slowdown of domestic consumption , among other factors. Despite a cloudy economic performance, we've been told that the President showed a different side to bankers and argued that Mexico has had an excellent development. It's obvious that López Obrador sticks to his discourse, disqualifies the numbers and projections made by international bodies and rating agencies.
Friendly and enemy fire at the cabinet
The one who was disqualified was the Interior Undersecretary, Ricardo Peralta . Peralta was criticized by the leader of the Hidalgo Congress, Ricardo Baptista, from Morena . We've been told that by referring to a local legislation , the lawmaker said for them, the Interior Ministry is “buried” and Peralta “hasn't been up to the challenges, needs, and we've shown them that we didn0t need to go to the Interior Ministry office as others have.” So while some of his enemies accuse Peralta of participating in the negotiations to extend the governorship from 2 to 5 years in Baja California , something that would benefit Morena governor Jaime Bonilla , lawmakers from Hidalgo disqualified him as an intermediary and asked him to let them solve their problems and not to intervene. Peralta has said that there are jealousy and friendly fire inside the cabinet .
IMSS director is organizing parties
In his free time, the head of the IMSS, Zoé Robledo , is working to organize the patriotic party for September 16. We've been told that the Civic Parties Commission , in charge of organizing the celebrations for the Mexican Independence and Revolution. Yesterday, Robledo was at the President's office to discuss the developments for the September 16 celebration. We've been told that it was a work meeting, which was also attended by Beatriz Gutiérrez Müller , the head of the Honorary Advisory Board of the National Coordination of the Historical and Cultural Memory of Mexico; Culture Minister Alejandra Frausto ; and Pedro Salmerón , the head of the National Institute of Historical Studies of the Mexican Revolutions. In April, López Obrador appointed Robledo as the one in charge of organizing these celebrations, which should be celebrated “as never before.”
