-Best Film Director
-Cinematography Film not in the English Language

Critic’s Choice Awards
-Best Picture Best Director
-Best Cinematography
-Best Foreign Language Film

Goya

Golden Globes
-Best Director
-Best Foreign Language Film

Venice Film Festival
-Golden Lion

The film was released through Netflix in December and Mexican cinemas refused to release the film in theaters, although now, months later, they have agreed to screen it in dozens of theaters around the country.

The film is "a love letter" for the women in Cuarón's life but especially for her nanny, "Cleo", played by Yalitza Aparicio

Yalitza, who recently graduated as a teacher, has never acted before and she never took classes, yet Cuarón personally chose her to star in ROMA.

Since the movie was released, Yalitza has walked dozens of red carpets and graced the covers of international magazines such as Vanity Fair, VOGUE Mexico, Teen Vogue, VOGUE UK, Elle Mexico, and many more. She now represents the face of Mexico that had been ignored for centuries by staring in an international film. She is also the first Indigenous woman to be nominated for an Oscar

Unfortunately, Yalitza has also been attacked for heritage and appearance in social media. A Mexican actor even used vulgar and racist language to refer to her. Nevertheless, the Mexican star has said that she is proud of her roots and she has become a perfect role model for women of color all over the world.

Congratulations to Alfonso Cuarón, the cast , and all those behind ROMA !
