The first edition of the Mexican Indigenous Music Festival will be held from September 12 to September 16 in Chicago, Illinois , with the aim of recognizing and spreading the cultural richness of the indigenous communities from Mexico in the United States.
The pianist Romeyno Gutierrez and the artisan Catalina Batista will transport the Rarámuri culture of the state of Chihuahua to the festival organized by the General Consulate of Mexico in Chicago, the Old Town School of Folk Music , Los Cenzontles , and the Council of Cultural Diversity Without Borders.

, head of the Cultural Linkage and Fund-raising Management Department of the Secretariat of Culture of Chihuahua, indicated that representatives from indigenous cultures from Michoacán, Guanajuato, and Chiapas will also participate.
She explained that the activities will take place in public elementary and middle schools in Chicago , as well as in other venues to celebrate the Mexican Independence Day, in other cities in Illinois.
"It's the first Festival of Indigenous Music in Chicago and it's an honor and pride that they invited our state. There will also be an artistic, gastronomic, and clothing show ," she said in a statement issued by the Ministry of Culture.
