Presidential Election 2018: who offers more?
Who offers more? Purchasing votes is at its peak, according to our sources. The aspiring presidential candidate of the National Action Party (PAN), Ricardo Anaya , has opened the wallet of public funds and is offering a universal basic rent to end poverty in Mexico. That is, all Mexican citizens, on account of being Mexican, will be entitled to a sum of money to have access to a “minimum vital which will allow them to live pursuant to their dignity.” In the case of Andrés Manuel López Obrador, he's got tickets for every occasion: if you're a student, you'll get yours; if you're young – even if you don't study or work – you'll get your ticket; if you're a senior citizen, you'll have twice of what you're currently being given. We'll have to wait and see the proposal of the candidate of the center-right Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI), José Antonio Meade – who knows a little about money and finances – to know how much he is willing to pay you for your vote. In the end, the one who ends up paying is you, anyway, through your taxes.
The “soldiers” of AMLO
The Generalissimo of the left National Regeneration Party ( MORENA ) has readied some of his political troops to deploy them throughout the country to reinforce his position in the electoral battle of 2018. We've been told the plan of Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO) has already been set in motion and that some of his main Lieutenants in the other states have already been uncovered. We've been told that, for instance, Ricardo Monreal and his brother, Senator David Monreal , have already been assigned to Zacatecas and a part of Durango, while Miguel Barbosa and Manuel Barttlet will handle Puebla. Thus begins Mr. Andrés's operation to try and conquer the National Palace.
The PAN's role in San Lázaro
What role did the deputies of the conservative National Action Party ( PAN ) play: a few days ago we told you in this space about the divide within the PAN, led by Marko Cortés, regarding the Law on Internal Security. Well, what do you know? The PAN boys showed their true colors again: last week they voted in favor of the final three candidates for General Auditor at the Vigilance Commission, but now, their national leader, Damián Zepeda , announced they will not vote for any of them – Salim Orcí, David Colmenares, and Ángel José Trinidad – and, smugly, the deputies have demanded to rerun the process. But there's more, the PAN members part of the Legislative Front comprised by the left Democratic Revolution Party ( PRD ) and the center-left Citizen's Movement Party ( MC ), proposed Orcí and Colmenares. Maybe they want a “buddy” for Auditor?
Ochoa & Our Lady of Guadalupe
It seems Enrique Ochoa , the national leader of the center-right Institutional Revolutionary Party ( PRI ), turned out to be a true believer. He started the morning of December 12 with a press conference where he declared all Mexicans are “Guadalupans” regardless of origin, political affiliation, age, or religion and stopped short of singing “Happy Birthday” to all the Guadalupes out there. A rare display for a politician but in electoral times it's best to be in the good graces of Our Lady of Guadalupe, in case one needs a miracle regarding electoral coalitions for the 2018 presidential election. Amen!
