President López Obrador sends a message to 'El Marro’

We’ve been told that President Andrés Manuel López Obrador ’s trip to Guanajuato has been modified. According to sources, the President’s logistics team informed that after the security meeting and news conference, López Obrador would inaugurate the National Guard’s headquarters in Irapuato. Nevertheless, we’ve been told that instead of the inauguration, the Mexican President will visit the Salamanca refinery. They said the changes in the schedule were not a coincidence and that the President is sending the message that the government will continue to fight fuel theft to “El Marro,” the leader of the Santa Rosa de Lima Cartel. However, official sources said 1,000 soldiers will be deployed to protect President López Obrador. Is this visit a response to El Marro’s threat against the federal government?

Ricardo Monreal, Morena’s leader in the Senate, is quick to reveal the things he knows, especially if these things could lead to political success. Yesterday he revealed the issues that will be discussed during the extraordinary period next week. Monreal has been working on the approval of the Budget Law that stagnated in the lower chamber but now Monreal said there was an agreement and we will see if he reached his goal. Some see this statement as an attempt to contend against Marcelo Ebrard, who could run for President, after he was praised for “taming” U.S. President Donald Trump during López Obrador’s visit to the White House. It seems like Monreal didn’t want to stay behind and he is now trying to fix the problem regarding the reform that gives the President more power over the budget. Sources say that Ebrard and Monreal are doing their jobs and looking for an opportunity; nevertheless, they are both moderate and will have to defeat the more radical members of the government who also want a chance to run for President.

López-Gatell’s finances

Sources say Dr. Hugo López-Gatell, Mexico’s Deputy Health Secretary, is running out of time, to present his statement of assets and liabilities, as well as his possible conflicts on interest. We’ve been told that Dr. López-Gatell only has two weeks left to file the paperwork that will be available for the public. The majority of the President’s cabinet has already done it, including the President himself. Moreover, some sectors are quite interested in this information.

The Supreme Court will take gender-based violence

While feminists, NGOs, and society have all criticized the President for not including violence against women in his agenda, a Supreme Court Minister is bringing up the issue at the court. Minister Margarita Ríos Farjat will ask fellow ministers to undertake a writ of amparo that ordered the Interior Ministry to declare a gender alert in Mexico City as a whole, not only in some boroughs. In the upcoming months, Ríos Farjat will present a proposal that justifies why the Supreme Court must have the final word regarding this issue.
