The e-commerce sector has grown significantly in Mexico , since it offers consumers practicality and convenience to make purchases without leaving their homes and using only a computer or smartphone.
As of June 2018 , according to data from the Electronic Commerce Study 2018 , conducted by the Internet MX Association , the e-commerce sector had a value of MXN$233.66 million , which was 18% higher than in the same period of the previous year.
With this in mind, Mastercard has shared some tips to buy online safely. They have recommended users not to share the card number and avoid the exchange of private or confidential information by e-mail or any other application.
The company also recommends avoiding purchases while connected to a public Internet network, changing passwords periodically, and not using the same password for all social networks, e-mails, or banking platforms.
It also suggests not to click on any e-mails that offer promotions or gifts in exchange for any sort of registration on a platform , since this allows cyber criminals to steal information .
