After taking office in 2012, former President Enrique Peña Nieto announced that his first presidential visit would take place on December 6, 2012. That day, he and his team took off from Mexico City, on board of the 757-225 Boeing , to Monterrey, Nuevo León.

During the one-hour-flight, Peña Nieto and his entourage, around 60 people, ordered 6 Monte Xanic wine bottles , three Maestro Tequilero tequila bottles , one Chivas Regal 12 years , and a bottle of Bailey's .

In time, the consumption of alcoholic beverages on board the presidential plane increased and became quite expensive for Mexican taxpayers , especially when the President and his team went on overseas trips.

From 2012 to 2015, 765 alcohol bottles were consumed inside the presidential plane: 522 liters of alcohol valued at MXN $271,014 . They were mostly r ed wine, whiskey, tequila, and cognac , according to official documents obtained by EL UNIVERSAL.

From December 2012 to December 2015, at least 41 national trips were registered, where authorities spent a total of MXN $51,962 in alcoholic beverages

For example, during a flight to Guerrero , which lasts less than an hour, at least 35 bottles were opened,

In a visit to Mérida, Yucatán, the President, and his team drank 27 bottles.

And in the case of international trips, the costs amounted to MXN $219,052 in 15 flights to Chile, Costa Rica, Venezuela, Italy, China, Peru, Haiti, Indonesia, Japan, Panama, French Guyana, United States, and Turkey.

During Peña Nieto 's first foreign tour, he traveled to Chile on January 24, 2013. During the flight, they consumed 78 bottles , with a cost of MXN $27,963.

Nevertheless, during international trips, their palate was more diverse . They consumed alcohol from at least 32 brands; a total of 548 bottles.

The whiskey consumed includes 81 Chivas Regal whiskey bottles , 48 Hennessy cognac bottles , 102 red wine bottles , and 4 9 tequila bottles.

In 2014, the presidential plane was replaced by a newer model, the Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner José María Morelos y Pavón.

After there were claims that the airplane was “palace” full of luxuries , Peña Nieto the information was distorted because the plane was replaced so that the leader could carry out his work commitments.

Bye bye Dreamliner

Three years later, when President López Obrador took office, the luxurious plane was put up for sale.
