After the first image of Mexican actor Omar Chaparro as Pedro Infante was revealed to promote a Netflix long feature film about the famous actor and singer, the artist's relatives complained that Netflix “had no permission to exploit the image of Pedro Infante,” and that Lupita Infante, the star’s daughter, had filed a complaint.
Lupita said she would not make an official statement until April 15 , during the 62nd anniversary of the death of Pedro Infante .
Earlier this year, during the Netflix Forum in Mexico, Ted Sarandos , the executive director of Online Service Content revealed that the actor and comedian Omar Chaparro would play Pedro Infante in Netflix’s new project.
The story follows Pedro Infante in the afterlife, where he has remained in limbo for over 60 years. Since he was a womanizer, he is banned from going to heaven, but since he did more than one good deed in life, he can’t go to hell either.
So the character asks for a second chance and is sent to Earth, where he will incarnate in the body of an imitator.
Lupita Infante claimed at a press conference in February that the project was in direct violation of a contract that was signed five years ago.
The agreement signed was for the production of a theater play.
“I didn’t know about the movie until late December and I knew that the contract was about to expire. The truth is that the agreement was not respected.”
Netflix is yet to issue a statement on the matter, though Lupita claimed that she did not plan to take legal action.
“I just want things to be clear,” she stated.
