Every year, Mexicans get ready for a party marathon known as “ Guadalupe-Reyes ”. But what is it and how did it begin?
The series of parties became popular in the 90s and it's called “ Guadalupe-Reyes ” because of the busy festive agenda Mexicans have, which has also become part of popular culture.
According to information, the Guadalupe-Reyes was the name of a police operation in Mexico City that looked to look after the pilgrims that arrived into the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe and also look after the citizens until the end of the holiday festivities on January 6.
Said celebrations officially begin on December 12 with the Virgin of Guadalupe's celebration , posadas take place from December 16 to 24, Christmas is celebrated on the 24 and 25, the Holy Innocents' Day is celebrated on the 28, the New Years party takes place on December 31 and January 1, and finally, the day of the Three Kings' Day is celebrated on January 6.
Besides these celebrations, Christmas parties at work and Secret Santas also take place during this time.
Just as in a marathon , the real winners will be the ones who survive the excessive food , drinks , parties , and more.
