One of the President’s closest aides traveled to Baja California
Now that Mexico has entered election season , sources said Gabriel García Hernández , the General Coordinator of Development Programs under the President’s office, has started visiting the states that will elect new governors next year. García Hernández, one of the President’s closest aides, traveled to Baja California and was accompanied by Alejandro Ruiz Uribe, considered as a possible contender for the 2021 election in the state. They traveled north to deliver financial aid to fishers, farmers, and indigenous people in Puertecitos, Ensenada.
Jaime Cárdenas steps down from the INDEP
Lawyer Jaime Cárdenas resigned from the Institute to Return Stolen Goods to the People ( INDEP ) to return to academic life at the UNAM. In a letter addressed to President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, Cárdenas explained the reasons behind his resignation. However, Jaime Cárdenas told those close to him that he disagreed with some of the government auctions and the presidential plane raffle. Perhaps this is why the President said there are a lot of good, honest, and intelligent people with convictions but that not all of them are fit for public service.
Olga Sánchez stays away from the opposition
Morena worries about Interior Minister Olga Sánchez Cordero . Sources said the majority of Morena members are so careful with her appearance at the Senate that it could be canceled. First, the meeting was postponed due to COVID-19, then it was changed to a virtual meeting, and then it was rescheduled. It is argued that Mónica Fernández Balboa, the head of the Government Commission at the Senate, is isolating while she awaits her COVID-19 results, a situation that will prevent her from meeting with Sánchez Cordero. Insiders said the Interior Minister will have to meet with the opposition sooner or later.
Morena’s turbulent election
Some are wondering if Morena will ever appoint its new leader. Days after the INE modified the call for a new national leader, a party member contested the decision before the Electoral Tribunal. Sources said Alejandro Rojas Díaz Durán is the one who keeps on challenging the decisions made by the political party. Morena must have a new leader by October 11, but many party members are wondering if this will be possible.
