On November 2, Gilda Margarita Austin, the mother of the former Pemex director Emilio Lozoya Austin was extradited to Mexico from Germany .
According to her lawyer Javier Coello Trejo , after being in detention for three months, she “asked to go to Mexico” to face the accusations made against her, which include criminal association and money laundering .
Coello Trejo
said Margarita Austin notified the German government that she agreed to her extradition two weeks ago.
Gilda Austin
was detained in Germany by the Interpol in July 2019 , when a judge issues arrest warrants against Emilio Lozoya ; his wife, Marielle Eckes ; his mother, Gilda Austin ; and his sister, Gilda Lozoya for their alleged participation in a bribery scheme orchestrated by Odebrecht .
After Gilda Margarita Austin arrived in Mexico, Mexico's Attorney General's Office charged Emilio Lozoya's mother with criminal association and money laundering and requested that she is prosecuted.
The Attorney General's Office claims that Gilda Austin 's bank account has used to receive bribes from Odebrecht for Emilio Lozoya when he was Pemex' s director. It is claimed that Austin received at least USD $185,000 between 2010 and 2015.
After a 9-hour hearing, a federal judge decided to prosecute Gilda Margarita Austin for criminal association and money laundering , nevertheless, since Gilda Austin is 71 years old, the judge decided she would face her trial under house arrest .
During the hearing, prosecutors argued that the USD $185,000 Gilda Austin received in November 2012 did not correspond to her salary as a private tutor. Authorities are also investigating other deposits made between 2010 and 2015.
Today, a federal judge refused to grant an amparo against an arrest warrant to Gilda Susana Lozoya Austin , Emilio Lozoya's sister, after the Attorney General's Office is looking to charge her with money laundering and criminal association .
