Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO)
is virtually the winner of Mexico's Presidential Election , with 53% of votes counted thus far, according to preliminary quick counts of the National Electoral Institute (INE) , according to President Councilor Lorenzo Córdova.
Electoral authorities announced the coalition “Together We'll Make History” has obtained a 53% of voting preferences , while Ricardo Anaya (“For Mexico to the Front”) has registered 22%, José Antonio Meade (“All for Mexico”) from 15.7% to 16.3%, and independent candidate Jaime Rodríguez Calderón (El Bronco) between 5.3% to 5.5%.
López Obrador stated Mexican citizens have decided to launch the “fourth transformation of Mexico” and called for reconciliation . He also claimed the main mission of his government is to end corruption and impunity, causes of inequality and violence.
He promised he would respect the autonomy of the Bank of Mexico, that he will maintain taxes and financial discipline, that he will not nationalize resources, that he will review contracts granted in the energy sector, and that there will be freedom of expression.
After learning the results of the preliminary results, Anaya, Meade, and El Bronco acknowledged the victory of Obrador.
Meade urged to continue building the country with unity despite the difference in perspectives.
For his part, Anaya claimed that the “blows of the federal government” to “harm” his campaign do not stain the triumph of López Obrador. Mexican citizens, he added, chose the project of López Obrador.
In his address to the Nation, Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto offered an ordered transition and called for unity “for the common good” of the country.
