During the Day of the Dead, Mixquic dresses up to celebrate: The pebble streets, houses, and graves are decorated to receive the souls of those who have passed as they visit us during the holiday .

Following tradition, illuminated paper stars, candles, and light-bulbs are placed to guide the dead on November 2 . Furthermore, the traditional Day of the Dead altars are decorated with cempasúchil flowers, food, the deceased’s favorite beverage, and several of their personal objects.

Although the main celebration happens on November 2, the first day of the month is dedicated to receive the souls of children . And on October 28, it is thought that the souls of those who have died violently come to visit their loved ones .
