The denomination of origin of mezcal currently includes Oaxaca, Guerrero, Michoacán, Durango, San Luis Potosí, Zacatecas, Tamaulipas, and Guanajuato.
The basis of an international contest to design a mezcal glass was also announced – $ 150, 000 MXN in total will be awarded to the first three places.
The Mezcal Route
During an interview, the Minister of Rural Development, Sustainability, and Land Management Rodrigo Riestra said the government is currently working on a project called “The Mezcal Route” in order to promote the region.
“We are planning to build an adequate infrastructure , offering different types of accommodation, guided tours, and gastronomy opportunities.”
As a part of this proposal, main local restaurants will now offer in their establishments “mezcal carts” so clients can choose from a wide range of products.
