Mexico breaks Guinness record with poinsettias

The design pays homage to the Pre-Colonial city of Teotihuacán, the cradle of the most important Mesoamerican civilization

With an extension of 17,805.19 square foot, the Teotihuacán Magic Village broke the Guinness record for the installation of the world's biggest carpet of flowers , which was set up in the midst of the Teotihuacán archeological zone.

In a statement, Aurora González Ledezma , the local Tourism Minister , said that the design was a representation of the Sun Pyramid , one of the icons of America and the world.

She explained that this carpet of flowers dethroned Saudi Arabia , that had created a 16,134 square foot arrangement.

Nine different poinsettia varieties were used to create the flower arrangement , which is one of the most beautiful and characteristics flowers from Mexico .

She emphasized that this initiative pays homage to the Pre-Colonial city of Teotihuacán , the cradle of the most important Mesoamerican civilization , which was declared as Cultural Heritage of Humanity by the Unesco .
