Mexico City's Mayor-elect to invest 5 billion in reconstruction

In order to aid victims of the 19S earthquake, Claudia Sheinbaum announced a 5,000M investment in reconstruction works

The Mayor-elect of Mexico City, Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo , announced that she will start her government with a budget of five billion pesos for reconstruction projects in the capital.

She claimed that the invesment was meant to support all people affected in the city by the earthquakes of September last year without incurring in debt, and "as far as the resources of the capital government will allow it."

When announcing her proposal to provide care for the victims, Sheinbaum committed to guarantee transparency . Those affected will know firsthand how resources are used, but the information is open to all citizens.

She said that the announced resources may be supplemented with the sub-exercises remaining in 2018 , as agreed with the government currently headed by José Ramón Amieva Gálvez .

In an act held at the College of Engineers , she said that her project not only assumes the responsibility of rebuilding the constructions collapsed by the earthquake of September 19, 2017, but aims to make Mexico City a safer entity in all aspects.

The mayor-elect clarified that the Ministry of Civil Protection of the capital will not disappear, but will be strengthened with the integration of the Integral Risk Management Institute .

By guaranteeing transparency in the management of resources, she said: "We are going to put everything in our hands, we are going to do everything humanly possible to rebuild the houses in the shortest time possible."

She added that in no way will the victims be guided to seek a loan to rebuild their home. The government will intervene directly to rebuild alongside the victims with the budget of Mexico City, because "they are public resources that belong to all of us."

stressed that her team would work with an important group composed of businessmen, scientists, and specialists with the purpose of building a better city and recover what was lost.
