Mexico City

Mayor Claudia Sheinbaum announced the city will implement exceptional measures after Mexico officially entered of its contingency plan to fight .

Sheinbaum announced drivers must follow a strict calendar that doesn’t allow people to drive their vehicles once a week. However, this measure does not apply to taxi drivers , disabled people , and cargo transport .

Moreover, authorities will close 20% of the , Metrobus , and light rail stations. The stations closed have lower demand and now more trains will be available in the stations that are usually crowded.

Starting on April 23, 38 stations, 47 Metrobus stations, and 4 light rail stations will remain closed in Mexico City .

Mexico City’s bicycle borrowing system will continue operating.

In a video shared on social media, Sheinbaum said authorities will verify that non-essential businesses close amid the public health crisis.

In the video, the mayor said the city will not implement a lockdown or fines but asked people to stay home and to follow physical distancing and basic hygiene measures.
