Mexico City
has decided to celebrate Valentine’s Day with heart-shaped flower beds and picture frames. The capital’s main square now features the artistic installation “Different Forms of Love in Mexico City.”
Made up of seven monumental hearts representing sexual diversity , the installation was elaborated with approximately 18 thousand flowers produced in the Xochimilco (Náhuatl for ‘Flower Field’) district, once an independent city established in the southern shore of Lake Xochimilco during the pre-Hispanic period .
The installation also features giant frames made of flowers for people to take pictures in front of landmarks such as the Metropolitan Cathedral, the National Palace, and Madero Avenue .
The flowers will be given away on Sunday February 17 , according to a press release.
The attendants will also be able to enjoy a photo gallery called “En las ciudades, todos los besos,” (In Cities, All Kisses) , made up of pictures taken by the creator of the 100 World Kisses project , Ignacio Lehmann , an artist who set out to capture kisses between lovers, fathers and sons, friends, and people with pets.
Visitors may also enjoy a photo exhibition at the Museum Archive of Photography , which features images of Plaza de la Constitución from the beginning of the 20th century , when the landmark was an enormous garden.
