Mexican users of fixed and mobile telephone lines , broadband , and TV networks are willing to pay 58,000 million pesos more for these services, as long as there is an improvement in service quality and additional products offered, according to the Nichos market investigation of the telecommunications sector conducted by Promtel .
“Users are willing to pay more money for a better service,” explained Fernando Borjón , head of the Organism for the Promotion of Telecommunications Investment ( Promtel ) at an interview with EL UNIVERSAL .
This means that there is a potential and unattended demand that could be met with Mexico’s current telecommunications infrastructure, though perhaps with the aid of new investment projects in the sector, according to the document.
“This represents an additional income of 58,000 million pesos ; that is to say that there’s potential for a return on investment, which is why we need to put more money on this to improve customer service,” Borjón added.
The sum of 58,000 million pesos was estimated on the basis of the additional amount users would have to pay for better broadband services.
4,000 people
were surveyed for mobile phone services and in the case of the prepaid phone segment, 45% of users are willing to pay 182.07 additional pesos for services with wider coverage, better reception, and less falsely connected calls. In the postpay segment, 54% of users were willing to pay 284.01 additional pesos.
For mobile broadband services, people surveyed stated that they were willing to pay 298.46 pesos more for a service that was twice as fast.
2,404
users of fixed telephony services were asked to evaluate their services. Promtel found that 24% of users would be willing to pay 260.72 pesos more for better quality calls.
For the fixed broadband services among users between 18 and 44 years old , 31% are willing to spend 160.13 pesos more for high-speed broadband access. If the service doubled their speed, they would pay an average of 181.34 pesos more.
33%
of fixed broadband users between 18 and 24 years old would be willing to pay MXN$116.05 more for a service with reliable speed and better connection.
