Two young female students from the Monterrey Institute of Technology (ITESM) , in collaboration with a medical student from the same institution, have created a pantyliner that can detect vaginal infections.
María Fernanda Nava and Adriana Vargas
, students of architecture, art, and design teamed up with the biotechnology engineering student Javier Ceballos to bring the project to life, aiming to help thousands of women in the country.
The innovating pantyliner will allow women to detect both infections and cervical cancer in a timely manner and at a low cost; Only MXN$5 a piece !
The pantyliner is equipped with intelligent and hypoallergenic spheres that change color depending on the woman’s pH levels , which are usually modified when the patient experiences a vaginal infection. If such is the case, the pad turns an intense pink, according to Fernanda Nava.
According to Nava, the idea is for the packaging to display various shades of pink that may appear in the pad after use, as well as their meaning. A bright pink hue means that the patient must go see a gynecologist immediately.
The project is called LifeDrop and won gold at the Jump Chile contest , which aims to turn student projects into business models.
Thanks to this, both students received a large sum of money to bring their idea to life, Fernanda told in social media, adding that LifeDrop had competed with 3,000 projects in Latin America .
This is the first time that a Mexican project wins first place at the Jump Chile competition.
