In Mexico , diabetes is a serious health problem, because according to the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI) , diabetes is the second cause of death in the country, and numbers from the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) indicate that 15.8% of Mexicans have diabetes .
The expert warned that a diagnosis is not enough and that the biggest threat is its mismanagement and misinformation .
"We realized that diabetic patients don't know about the disease , don't know what the follow-up is, they don't know what hemoglobin is, they don't have good health care practices."
He also explained that this happens "even when people who know they are diabetics and may have serious complications, and some of the most common consequences are amputation of the limbs, blindness , and removal of the kidney ."

said that " Somos diabetes " is already available for iOS and Android and is an educational application that explains diabetes to the patient, how to take care of oneself, and the possible complications of this disease .
He said it also highlights the importance of regular visits to the doctor and can even review the user's diet and monitor the amount of exercise performed.
"With this, we try to help the patient, not only with their education but by providing support in their follow-up or treatment ," he said.
The researcher emphasized that "this problem is global and we need to standardize the language when we talk about diabetes , we all use the same terms , we all refer to the same sugar levels , we all talk about the amount of exercise needed, and there is a global consensus" he concluded.
