Mexican painter pays tribute to those who lost the battle against COVID-19

The painting, sketches, and drawings by the Mexican artist will be auctioned to help those affected by COVID-19

The so-called “Painter of Dreams” is now working for the victims of COVID-19 .

For several weeks now, Julián David López Trejo, an artist from the State of Mexico who created the internationally renowned dynamic triangulation technique, has conveyed the feelings left by this new disease in the first of 40 paintings that will comprise his series.

“A lot of people are dying and I wanted to pay tribute to all of them,” asserted the Mexican painter .

Pandemic is a 1-meter x 90cm oil on canvas that conjugates pre-Hispanic elements with figures like Mictlantecuhtli, the god of death, who wears Moctezuma’s headdress, as well as elements representing hope.

“It is about showing the shift from life to death, which is precisely what we’re living,” he explained.

“On Mictlantecuhtli’s right hand, we can see all those souls that are leaving in a very sad way because they cannot be bid farewell as they deserve,” he adds.

The painting will be donated to help the families that have lost one of their members due to coronavirus, those who have been left unemployed, or those who are currently infected with the new virus.

“Foundations and private collectors are giving us support. This work will be auctioned abroad,” he said.

On the other hand, he mentioned the series “Mexico in light of COVID-19” will be comprised of sketches and drawings.

The works will be sold in Mexico, the U.S., and Costa Rica, as well as in Asian and European countries.
