Mexican high school students win robotics contest in China

A group of Mexican students had an outstanding participation at the World Educational Robot Contest (WER) in Shanghai, China .

The high school students from the Technological Institute of Superior Studies of Monterrey (ITESM) , Campus Matamoros , obtained the third place in the international team category, whereas the students of PrepaTec Campus San Luis won the prize for best team.

In a statement, the institute reported today that the world final of WER Robotics was held on December 15 and 16 , at the National Exhibition and Convention Center in Shanghai, China .

It specified that the Viper team of the PrepaTec Campus Matamoros was composed of Alejandra Marión Cintara, Eric Ramón Galván, and David Daniel Paz , who won the bronze medal among 50 teams. Furthermore, they finished in the tenth place in the general ranking, out of 500 participating teams .

The Lambot team, of the PrepaTec, Campus San Luis , was decorated for being the group that showed the best teamwork. This team was integrated by Erick Terán, Diego Vitales, and Luisa Cubillas .

It added that the students of PrepaTec Chihuahua, Christian Loya, Emilio Rey, and Santiago Rangel also participated, ranking among the first 20 places .

According to ITESM, the teams participating in the world final of robotics, made up of three students, had to make their robot perform five to six activities in less than two and a half minutes.

WER is one of the most important educational robotics tournaments in the international arena, and is aimed at children from 4 to 18 years of age. It is divided into the categories of primary, secondary, and high school.
