Mexican designer Laura Anderson
is creating the costumes for the world premiere of " Companionship ," a staging that will be part of the Fort Worth Opera of Texas program.
"Companionship" is an English piece by Rachel J. Peters . Both the story and the creations of Anderson will present the world of Lesley Sinclair , a girl obsessed with creating the perfect baguette, but after baking the number 207 thousand 345, the previous set comes to life and the plot takes a somber turn.
"I have had the pleasure to work in Fort Worth several times and I have always been impressed by the quality and dedication of their artistic institutions. As a production and costume designer for "Companionship" I have the wonderful privilege of combining several elements and contributing to Rachel J. Peters' beautiful libretto and music," Laura shared about her work experience.
For the making of the costumes, her team took into account works by authors such as Pablo Picasso's "Guernica" and studied the way in which the landscape of emotions and feelings was visually represented.
For them it was important not to be obvious with the wardrobe, since they wanted to offer the public an intimate look at the world of the character.
Even works by The Ballets Russes Bauhaus and the Japanese artist Kansai Yamamoto were part of the concept Anderson aspired to, though she was anxious to know how the public would respond.
Born in Mexico City , the designer now lives in New York . Since 1992, she has worked in the public and social world, in addition to carrying out projects in Mexico, the United States, Trinidad and Tobago, Norway, and the Amazon of Venezuela.
In some of these countries, her work is kept in both public and private collections. The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York , the Museum of Modern Art in Mexico , and the Landesk Baden-Württremberg in Stuttgart, Germany , are some of the venues where she has exhibited her work.
Fort Worth Opera will now present its 2019 Festival set to premiere on April 26 , featuring "Companionship." According to a statement, the shows will be held on May 1, 3, and 5 at the auditorium of the botanical garden of Fort Worth.
