Elements of Mexico’s Federal Police have seized a total of 178,000 liters of illegally obtained hydrocarbons in the states of Mexico, Hidalgo, Michoacán, and Puebla as part of their operations to fight fuel theft in Mexico.
The Ministry of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC) informed that the first operation was conducted at the San Martín Texmelucan municipality in Puebla , where federal agents from the Investigation Division , in cooperation with the Army and Navy , as well as the Office of the Assistant Attorney-General for Organized Crime Investigation (SEIDO) , and the Attorney General’s Office (PGR) , searched three buildings with a court warrant.
Federal forces were able to seize 168 thousand liters of diesel , which had been stored in plastic drums, tanker trucks, and a cistern. Police agents were able to arrest a female suspect carrying nearly one million pesos in cash.
During another operation in the Bomintzha municipality , federal agents identified a seemingly abandoned cargo vehicle. After inspection, they found that it contained a cylindrical tank with approximately 5 thousand liters of fuel.
Federal officers also seized five drums containing around 5,900 liters of illegally obtained fuel in the Tacámbaro community of Michoacán and a tanker truck full of LP gas in the Atlacomulco-Toluca highway, in the State of Mexico .
The suspects, hydrocarbons, and vehicles that were seized by Mexican authorities were referred to the Public Prosecutor.
