Tequila
is a municipality in the state of Jalisco where the famous beverage that bears its name is produced. Until 17 years ago , it was an industrial territory with very few tourists. However, after a few years, it became one of the main tourist areas in the state. Only 12 years ago, the Tequila Trail was created, touring several provinces in the small population’s proximity.
Today, Tequila is in process of becoming a “smart town” (2020) , and eventually, a “smart city” (2040) .
Doctor Roberto Delgado
, general director of the JB Cuervo and Mungo Cuervo groups, said that local and foreign visitors are looking to stay connected during their travels, which is why the government administration has decided to increase connectivity and traceability standards, allowing the municipality to develop businesses more efficiently and provide quality services for tourists. “The Big Data allows us to throw precise statistics so we can better plan our offer for tourists.”
The JB Group and the Ministry of Tourism have decided to present the book called “Tequila Inteligente, Pueblo Mágico” (Smart Tequila, Magic Town) , compiled by Federico de Arteaga , director of planning at the JB Group. Featuring articles and interviews, the book shows the way in which the town of Tequila can be a replicable model of smart city for other small towns in the country.
Tequila currently offers intelligent modules to help guide visitors and monitor tourist flows, allowing it to advertise the region and collect data.
“We have sensors generating heat signals through which we can see the concentration on people in every part of the town. In a way, we are generating business models. If businesses can monitor the amount of tourists concurring in certain areas, they can prioritize new services. Downtown, we also have a mobile app that shows offers for tourists visiting Tequila,” Federico de Arteaga explained.
