At least 1 person was killed and 32 people were injured when a vehicle hit a crowd in Barcelona today, police sources confirmed.

The police are searching for two people as alleged authors of the attack . According to the first hypotheses, one of the suspects was hiding in a bar with a gun, while the other escaped.

It seems that the van that caused the tragedy left Las Ramblas subway station , circulated in the center lane of the central avenue and crashed several vehicles on its way up to the entrance of the Liceu ( Barcelona's Opera House ).

The Catalonian regional government advised avoiding the surroundings of Plaza de Cataluña , where Las Ramblas area begins, due to the “ serious incident ”.

In the surroundings of Las Ramblas, chaotic scenes of people running away frightened, hiding in shops and portals after the attack were seen.

Las Ramblas area is one of the busiest places of Barcelona, especially by tourists, and it is the link between several public transport facilities.

In Las Ramblas, plenty of commercial establishments are located. Near there, La Boquería, a large public market remains closed as well.
