People displaying a significant physical exertion for their daily tasks could improve their performance and reduce stress by consuming a chewing gum developed by students of the National Polytechnic Institute (IPN) .
With better health qualities than commercial products, this chewing gum called " Cofee Gin " contains ginseng, a natural antioxidant that fights the formation of free radicals that cause cell aging, in addition to helping to overcome fatigue.
Lesly Figueroa Santos, Brenda Hernández Velasco, and Mario López Luis
, students of Biochemical Engineering at the National School of Biological Sciences (ENCB) , are the creators of this product that raises the body’s energy levels, the IPN said in a statement.
The young students explained that the chewing gum was designed to offer the population a substitute product of the energizers that are currently marketed, specifically drinks with a high content of sugars and compounds that often produce negative side effects.
"Cofee Gin" is suitable for people over 18 with a high energy demand in their day-to-day activities, without creating risks of addiction or adverse reactions.
The chewing gum incorporates caffeine and ginseng in a far lesser amount than that recommended by the official standard. A person would have to consume 20 tablets a day of the treat to match the amount of caffeine contained in a single cup of coffee .
Energy drinks often contain large amounts of caffeine, as well as compounds that alter the nervous system, such as taurine , while the chewing gum developed by students is completely taurine-free. Furthermore, ginseng helps overcome both physical and mental fatigue with little side effects.
When compared to other sweets such as gummies or chocolates, chewing gum is a confectionery product with a high level of consumption and its production process comes at a very low price. The young people of IPN have not yet ruled out the possibility of commercializing the product later on.
The chewing gum was made based on official quality standards . It is elastic, chewy, and pallatable.
