The Inter American Press Association ( IAPA ) expressed its concern and condemned the murders of journalists in Honduras , Mexico , and Colombia .

The association assured that "it is attentive to violence and threat situations occurred in the last weeks in several countries of the region” and it urges the authorities to investigate the murders to clarify the causes of the crimes.

In Mexico , J uan Carlos Hernández , a contributor to La Bandera Noticias , was murdered on September 5 . Local media reported that the website had reported previous threats, yet authorities in Guanajuato believed that the crime was not directly related to journalism.

In Honduras , Carlos Williams Flores , who worked on Channel 22 leading the program Sin pelos en la lengua ( Do not mince your words ), which covered issues of irregularities in the municipality, was killed on September 13 .

IAPA considers that the sentence against the perpetrator of the murder of journalist Flor Alba Núñez Vargas is "a step forward in the fight against impunity, although there is a need to identify and prosecute the instigators of the crime," yet the association emphasizes that most of the crimes against journalists in Colombia have not been clarified.
