Nachos
are delicious and popular all over the world but do you know the story behind this delicious snack ?
Ignacio Anaya García
, a Mexican man, is the mastermind behind this snack. He was born on August 15, 1895, in Coahuila .
In 1943 , Anaya García was working as Maître d' at Club Victoria , a popular restaurant in Piedras Negras, Coahuila . Then a group of American women, wives of soldiers stationed at nearby Eagle Pass Army Airbase , stopped by and asked for a snack . But when García was unable to find the chef , he took over and created a snack that would later become an iconic dish all over the world.
According to Google , word soon spread about his delicious Nachos , named after his nickname , which was added to the Club Victoria menu , imitated around town, and written up in an American cookbook by 1949. In 1960, García had opened his own restaurant , El Nacho .
Although García refused to patent his creation because he said “It's just a snack to keep my customers happy and well-fed,” and that “It's like any other border dish ” his name has gone down in history and each year, Piedras Negras hosts the International Nacho Festival and erected a plaque in his honor.
Today, Google released a Doodle in his honor. It was illustrated by Mexico City -based artist Alfonso de Anda.
