If the agreement does not benefit the three parties involved in North American Free Trade Agreement ( NAFTA ), it will not be an agreement, that was the sentence that Mexico's Economy Minister , Ildefonso Guajardo , announced during the beginning of the negotiations of the aforementioned commercial agreement.
He remarked that Mexico is head to head with its counterparts to move forward and to modernize, not to return to the past.
Idelfonso Guajardo mentioned that the agreement will be a success if it benefits the three parties involved. “For an agreement to be successful, it has to benefit all the parties involved, otherwise it would not be an agreement,” he explained.
Mexico, he added, reaches the negotiation with a constructive and proactive role in the interest of driving interests and goals, yet “without risking what we have achieved as a region”.
Guajardo, accompanied by Mexico's Deputy Minister of Foreign Trade , Juan Carlos Baker , and Kenneth Smith , Head of the Trade and NAFTA Office of the Ministry of the Economy of Mexico , said that the opportunity of being pioneers and to redesign the interactions is possible now.
“Our first challenge is to find the middle ground between the common interests of the three countries ”, he assured.
