The hunt for César Duarte
Mexico's Office of the Attorney General (PGR), led by Alberto Elías Beltrán , has set in motion a legal proceeding for the extradition of the former Chihuahua Governor, César Duarte , of the center-right Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI), for 10 embezzlement counts and 1 for electoral fraud. The paperwork shall be done tomorrow though the diplomatic way and the petition will be presented before the United States of America, country where it is believed the former Governor is currently hiding. And next week, we're told, new international actions will be brought against Duarte. Our sources say on Wednesday afternoon the case file and extradition petition for the former Governor was already being worked on upon the request of the Presidency, and that this new development has nothing to do with the tantrums of opposition politicians. Oh, that's good to know!
The dangerous affection of AMLO
Sometimes affection can be a dangerous thing. This is the case, according to our sources, of the coordinator of the left National Regeneration Party (MORENA), at the Lower Chamber, Rocío Nahle , who is busy, busy, with the Veracruz tour of the MORENA aspiring presidential candidate Andrés Manuel López Obrador . We've been told Ms. Rocío is trying to keep a low profile in AMLO's pre-campaign in order to avoid sanctions for the party by the electoral authorities and to spare herself the complaints that she isn't currently in San Lázaro. The Deputy is trying to keep to the shadows yet it is the aspiring candidate himself who keeps mentioning she will become the next Minister of Energy, should he win the election. Well, people are right when they say true affection can't be hidden.
Vest, jacket, or shirt for Anaya?
Some of the more conservative members of the conservative National Action Party (PAN) got sore eyes after they saw their former national leader and current aspiring presidential candidate wearing a yellow vest with the acronym of the left Democratic Revolution Party ( PRD ). They are now wondering what will their eyes behold today when Ricardo Anaya goes to register as the official candidate of the center-left Citizen's Movement Party ( MC ) as part of the coalition “For Mexico to the Front.” Some have placed their bets on an orange vest, jacket, or shirt, while others claim that given the displeasure the yellow vest caused, Anaya will simply give a speech and pose for the photos. We'll see who win this bet.
The ombudsman & the Law on Internal Security
The Law on Internal Security will be back under the spotlight in the upcoming days. We were told Mexico's ombudsman, Luis Raúl González , has an appointment with the Deputies and Senators, before whom he will present his annual activity report, during the meeting of the Permanent Commission of the Congress of the Union to be held next Wednesday 24. We've been told the members of the center-right Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI) and the center-right Green Party (PVEM) have a great interest in the arguments Mr. Luis will provide on the unconstitutionality of the Law, in addition, that by that time, it is expected that the president of the Human Right's Commission has already presented an appeal against the Law . Our sources say a format for the easy discussion and exchange of points of view has already been agreed on, which says Mr. Luis will receive harsh questions from those supporting the Law, and, perhaps, support from those who oppose it.
