“You only get what you give. It's a law as certain as gravity. Guillermo del Toro has given the past 25 years of his life to cinema, and through his movies, he has given us all the gift of his imagination , which is the product of his curiosity and his vast literary and cinematographic culture . His most personal films are lyrical and, like in any metaphor, they are shortcuts that take us faster to the deepest truths.

We ignore it but his monsters are each and every one of us; he knows it since he was a kid, that they are the only ones who see the truth in what fantasies recount.

And Guillermo is still a child; it's enough to look at those big, green eyes of his, round and sparkling. As a person, Guillermo has given all his support and experience to hundreds of young filmmakers and several cultural and humanitarian institutions worldwide. As a friend , he is loyal, affectionate, and always ready to give a wise counsel or a tight hug in difficult times.

' The Shape of Water ' is, to me, his best film, and when he receives this Sunday the award, it will only be evidence that one only gets what one gives.”
