The movie is based on a book called The Last Soldiers of the Cold War, written by the Brazilian journalist Fernando Morais , which tells about five undercover agents in the United States who remained loyal to the Cuban government after being discovered by U.S. authorities .

“It is a story about a Cuban espionage organization in Miami in the 90s . There are no secrets to the story, because it is based on real characters. Edgar will give life to René González, a cuban spy, and Penélope Cruz will act as his wife . Gael will be Viramontes, the leader of the spies ,” said Assayas in an interview.

The French director visited Mexico after being invited as a special guest to the International Film Festival of Morelia , which will end next week.

“Wasp Network is a complex story. I had to simplify it to clarify my ideas,” he stated.

When asked about the project, Gael García said that it was best not to comment on something that he had not done yet.
