After being presented in Moscow , the exhibition called “ Viva la Vida. Frida Kahlo y Diego Rivera ,” which gathers paintings and objects by the Mexican artists that were donated by collectors and museums, will now travel to Saint Petersburg , where it will be presented from 20 March to 19 May .
The Fabergé Museum in Saint Petersburg will present the exhibition, which gathers more than 90 paintings created by Kahlo and Rivera and tells the story of their famous marriage.
The Kahlo and Rivera show will invite Muscovites to dress as the Mexican artists.
"This spring (borealis) in St. Petersburg will recreate the surprising and controversial universe of one of the most influential pairs of artists of the twentieth century, the one formed by Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera, a universe in which the dazzling Mexican culture fuses with fashion eccentricities, and the manifestos of the Revolution coexist with a passionate love ", the organizers of the show highlighted.
In addition to the works of Kahlo and Rivera lent by the Museo Dolores Olmedo (Mexico) , the exhibition shows paintings from private collections in Europe and Latin America, including that of Juan Rafael Coronel Rivera (Diego Rivera’s grandson) , as well as from the Arvil Gallery (Mexico) .
The exhibition allows the public to know both Kahlo's early works and those she created at the top of her career.
Among Rivera's canvases, it is included those he created during his second trip to the Soviet Union between 1955 and 1956 .
The collection will be complemented with documentaries on the life and art of the painters, as well as photographs taken by Guillermo Kahlo, Frida’s father , and his American friend, Nickolas Muray.
