On Sunday, authorities detained Namibia del Socorro Fuentes González, a Nicaraguan citizen, in San Pedro Tapanatepec , in the state of Oaxaca .
The woman was transporting three undocumented Cuban migrants and claimed she was a Nicaraguan consul in Mexico , nevertheless, her diplomatic visa had expired in 2017 .
When authorities questioned Fuentes González , she said she was taking the migrants to a shelter in Ciudad Ixtepec, Oaxaca.
Today, the Nicaraguan government denied the woman's claims. Authorities explained that she was a consul in Mexico but was dismissed in February 2019 because she was involved in “irregularities.”
On the other hand, the National Migration Institute said that according to official documents, the woman is still registered as a Nicaraguan consul in Mexico but she has yet to renew her visa .
The Nicaraguan government also revealed that since March 5, its new consul in Mexico and the Mexican government had been informed about the case.
The Cuban migrants were taken to the migration institute and will be deported soon. The Nicaraguan woman was transported to the Attorney General's Office .
