Foreign tourism expenditure decreases for the first time in six years

Mexico received 23 million of foreign tourists between January and July being the highest figure in recorded data according to Banxico

On average, international tourists spen USD$ 519 between January and July , representing the lowest expenditure in three years according to the Bank of Mexico ( Banco de México abbreviated Banxico ).

It is a USD$ 9 decrease ( -1.8% ) compared with the USD$ 528 reported during the same period in 2016 , being the first reduction since 2011 in a similar period.

Foreign tourists traveling to Mexico by plane spent a higher amount of money, USD$ 927 on average between January and July, yet representing the lowest expenditure in four years.

It is a USD$ 14 decrease ( -1.4% ) compared with the USD$ 94 1 reported during the same period in 2016, being the second consecutive reduction in the last seven years.

According to México's Ministry of the Interior ( Secretaría de Gobernación abbreviated SEGOB ) Migration policy , six out of ten foreign tourists were from the United States .

Foreign tourists traveling to Mexico by cruise through the Cozumel Cruise Port Terminal spent USD$ 60 on average. Cozumel is considered the world's main cruise port by the Florida-Caribbean Cruise Association ( FCCA ).

According to Mexico's Ministry of Tourism ( Secretaría de Turismo abbreviated Sectur ), Quintana Roo received 51.5% of foreign tourists in 2016, representing the highest figure in the state since records were established in 1992.
