On March 18, Mexico’s Health Ministry announced a patient infected with COVID-19 died; this was the first fatality registered in the country.
The patient was a 41-year-old man who was being treated at the National Institute of Respiratory Diseases ( INER ). His condition worsened due to his diabetes .
According to federal authorities, the patient was treated at the INER since March 9. According to his relatives, the man attended a concert in a crowded arena on March 3 and a few days later, he fell ill.

It is unclear if the man traveled to China , Italy , France , Spain , or any other country with important COVID-19 outbreaks .
On the other hand, it was revealed that a 40-year-old man interned in a private hospital , and who tested positive for COVID-19 , also attended the same concert. The man was hospitalized on March 16 and was sent to the intensive care unit but he has recovered successfully and he’s now in the intermediate care unit.

On March 20, Health authorities confirmed the death of a second patient due to COVID-19 . It was a 74-year-old man who had hypertension and was hospitalized in Durango.
On March 23, Health authorities confirmed the death of a third and fourth patients due to COVID-19: A 55-year-old man in Jalisco and a 71-year-old man in Mexico City .
On March 24, Health authorities confirmed the death of a fifth patient. It was a woman in Mexico City .
On March 25, health authorities confirmed the death of a 70-year-old man in San Luis Potosí who had hypertension, obesity, and smoking-use antecedents.
On March 26, authorities confirmed the death of the seventh and eighth COVID19-related deaths. One was a 42-year-old man and a 28-year-old man in Mexico City .
On March 27, authorities reported the ninth, tenth, eleventh, and twelfth COVID-19-related deaths were registered in Jalisco (2) , Michoacán, and San Luis Potosí.
On March 28, authorities reported four more COVID-19-related death in Mexico for a total of 16 deceases in Mexico City (2), Hidalgo , and Quintana Roo .
As of March 29, authorities confirmed 20 COVID-19-related deaths. The victims were between 37 and 77, and were mainly men.
