On Friday, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles ( FCA ) recalled 228,508 Ram trucks worldwide to fix a problem with gear shifters.

In a statement, FCA disclosed that the problem affected 180,975 vehicles in the United States , 42,045 in Canada , 4,066 in Mexico , and 1,422 in other markets .

The recall includes certain Ram 2500 and 3500 2018-2017 model pickups, Ram 3500 , 4500 , and 5500 2016-2017 model chassis cabs with a Gross Vehicle Weight Ratin g ( GVWR ) of fewer than 10,000 pounds, and Ram 1500 2017-2018 .

The brake-transmission shift interlock ( BTSI ) may overheat on some vehicles, causing the shifter to be repositioned without brake-pedal application or the presence of a key in the ignition.

However, FCA mentioned that it is not aware of any crashes or injuries related to this defect.

Back in December , FCA announced the revision of 1.8 million trucks to repair a defect that allowed vehicles to be removed from the "park" position without the need to apply the brake.
