On Wednesday, ExxonMobil announced a partnership with retailer Grupo Orsan to open eight Mobil-branded service stations in Querétaro this week.
"The objective is to offer the best fuel in the world, direct from our refineries [in the United States ] to Mexican vehicles: a direct product from the factory," said Carlos Rivas Fuels Director for ExxonMobil Mexico , adding that the multinational "arrives in [Mexico] to compete, but to build and encourage private investment as well."
ExxonMobil plans to ope n 50 Mobil stations in the Bajio region by the end of the first quarter of 2018 .
According to Rivas, the goal is to transform the fuel market in Mexico, something competitors will surely be involved in.
"The logistic networks that we are developing will offer the country the best quality of fuels, of greater performance and that are eco-friendly," he explained.
According to a press release issued by ExxonMobil, the new Mobil-branded stations will be operated by Grupo Orsan and supplied with gasoline and diesel produced by ExxonMobil’s refineries in Texas while the fuels will be distributed by rail through two private fuels terminals located in San Luis Potosi and San Jose Iturbide.
“This is part of ExxonMobil’s long-term commitment to invest USD $300 million in fuels logistics, product inventories, and marketing in Mexico over the next 10 years,” the statement read.
Energy Minister Pedro Joaquin Coldwell
assured that with the arrival of ExxonMobil in Mexico, the fuel industry is evolving through the development of new fuel distribution and storage infrastructure with the participation of new brands.
On Twitter , Pedro Joaquin Coldwell wrote in Spanish: "This afternoon Mobil-branded service stations formalize their entry into the Mexican market seeking to consolidate their brand's reputation offering quality and service in the coming years."
