The European Union will follow up on the commitments made by President López Obrador in regards to the Ayotzinapa case , at the same time, they stated they won't stop pressuring the Mexican government until justice is achieved, said the European Union's High Representative for the Foreign Policy, Federica Mogherini , in response to Francisco Assis , who demanded to know the role the EU will play in the face of the “ blatant mistakes in the trial about the massacre of 43 students in Ayotzinapa .”
“The President promised to create (…) a Truth Commission to investigate all the aspects of the Iguala case . The EU will continue to monitor the Iguala case and pressuring for an exhaustive investigation that allows guaranteeing that justice is delivered and that the true authors are held accountable,” Mogherini told Assis.

had access to a letter sent to the member of the Socialist Party , where the vice president of the European Commission recalls that the EU has closely followed the investigation of the Ayotzinapa case and has “expressed, in several occasions, its deep concern” in regards to it.
She argues that the issue has been addressed in every level with her Mexican counterparts and that the “ EU has fought for a thorough investigation” and has supported the cooperation with the Interdisciplinary Group of Independent Experts (GIEI) and the follow-up mechanism established by the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights.
“What steps should the EU take for the release of Erick Sandoval and to influence the Mexican authorities to carry out a serious investigation about the Ayotzinapa massacre , capable of solving the case, punish the guilty ones, and deliver justice ?” asked Assis .
The member of the Euro-Latin American Parliamentary Assembly argues that the Iguala events exposed the “ culture of violence and impunity that reigns in Mexico .”
Assis
emphasized the physical state of Erick Sandoval, a teacher, who has been in jail since Match after being wrongfully accused by Mexico's Attorney General's Office (PGR) , who mistook him for “La Rana”, a man implicated in the case and who's also at large.
The document sent by Mogherini explains that the EU is following Sandoval's case closely and that the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) , Jan Jarab , has demanded his immediate release .
“Erick is still incarcerated, the PGR hasn't acknowledged its mistake or spoken out about the case. This is an evident lack of respect for the right to freedom ,” she said.
