On June 27, the expert who was set to present evidence against María Eva Ortiz , El Marro’s mother , failed to show up at the hearing.
María Eva was arrested on June 20, along with Juana and Rosalba, El Marro’s sister, and cousin.

The prison where El Marro’s mother was held was guarded by state forces, the National Guard, and the Mexican army.
On June 28, El Marro’s mother was released because of the lack of evidence against her.
Judge Paulina Irais Medina Manzano decided not to bound the woman, and the other four suspects arrested during the same operation, over to trial. They were charged with selling drugs .
All the suspects arrested in Celaya on June 20 have been released.

authorities were unable to present evidence and the judge and the suspects’ lawyer claimed there were several irregularities in the detention.
Lawyers proved authorities planted MXN 2 million in cash at the scene. Additional evidence showed María Eva wasn’t arrested in the location state authorities announced, but at her daughter’s home.
The lawyers also presented a recording that proves authorities psychologically tortured the suspects.
After all the alleged Santa Rosa de Lima Cartel members were released, Guanajuato Governor Diego Sinhue said the Attorney General’s Office should have undertaken the case and that local authorities were only helping in the case.
After María Eva was released from prison , one of her lawyers was murdered.
The 29-year-old-lawyer was being followed by gunmen , who shot him, and caused his vehicle to overturn.
