Juan Carlos “N” and Patricia “N,”
a couple suspected of murdering at least 10 women and selling a baby girl in Ecatepec, State of Mexico have just been sentenced to 40 years in prison for the murder of a 28-year-old woman on September last year in the Jardines de Morelos neighborhood .
This is the first femicide conviction issued against the two suspects, who have been held in custody since October 2018 at the Chiconautla state prison.
During a hearing on Tuesday, a district judge passed sentence to 40 years in prison and the payment of a MXN$56,420 fine upon Juan Carlos and Patricia for the murder of Nancy Nohemí Huitrón Solorio .
The couple faces another five charges for femicide and one for enforced disappearance committed by persons.
Regarding the latter, the couple had been sentenced to another 30 years in prison. However, their defense attorney appealed against the judge’s ruling and there is now a pending resolution of the case.
According to the accusation made by the Public Prosecutor’s Office , Juan Carlos and Patricia were responsible for the enforced disappearance of Nancy Nohemí and her daughter, who was only two months old at that time, in the Jardines de Morelos neighborhood on September 6, 2018 .
On the same day, Juan Carlos murdered the young mother at the couple’s home.
The victim’s baby was sold for MXN$15,000 to Adrián and Rosa Laura
, who were arrested shortly after under charges of human trafficking in the form of illegal adoption, and sentenced to four years in prison.
Juan Carlos and Patricia were arrested on October 4, 2018 in the Jardines de Morelos neighborhood. They were found carrying a stroller full of human remains.
In their statements before ministerial authorities, the couple claimed to have murdered at least 20 women, most of them from their own neighborhood.
