José Ángel Vizcaíno
discovered his passion by chance. One day, as a child, he ran into a ballet school and did not want to leave. Today he is 15 years old and he studies in one of the most important classical dance schools in the world, the John Cranko Schule in Germany .
“I started competing when I was seven. I participated in festivals and I started traveling. I went to a competition in the Dominican Republic and won the first place. Then, I had the opportunity to go to Germany. I went to the International Dance Festival of Cordoba , in Veracruz , where teachers and directors of many prestigious international schools, including the John Cranko Schule, are reunited. At the festival, after the competition, they announced I had won the scholarship ,” recalls the dancer.
Last year, José Ángel got a full scholarship that was renewed for the next two years.
“Language, climate and, above all, the classes were the most shocking parts of this amazing opportunity. In Mexico , I had never taken classes exclusively with male dancers, and in John Cranko Schule I took classes without female dancers. Besides I was in boarding school, it took me a while to get used to it.”
However, his stay in Germany is at risk because his family has not been able to raise funds for a plane ticket to take him back. Institutional funding, both local and federal, is unavailable since all the calls for funding are closed at the moment.
The initial goal was to raise funds for their annual stay, but due to the urgency of the trip, he only needs a ticket to Germany.
José Ángel is calm and, from his home in Guadalajara, remembers his training in Mexico at the Doris Topete Dance Academy and the support his family has provided to help him fulfill his dream.
The deadline for his trip is September 10. The web site to help José Ángel is https://donadora.mx/projects/un-angel-bailando-por-el-mundo .
“Dance has become my life. The ballet has given me everything, allowing me to travel, to know many cultures and, above all, to express my feelings. My dream is to become a professional dancer. I will live grateful to all those who have contributed in the fulfillment of my dream.”
